Barriers to Learning

Lee Jackson is a motivational speaker in schools and businesses and author of ‘How to Enjoy and Succeed in School and College aka How to be Sick at school!’

A former youth worker (and Hip Hop DJ!), he works in all sectors helping people get the best out of their lives, study and work. He is also a fellow of, and President of the Professional Speaking Association in Yorkshire. He lives with his wife and twin girls in West Yorkshire and loves circuit training, good comedy and the NBA.

Q: If you weren’t a speaker, what do you think you’d be?

Well, I’ve been a legal clerk, a youth worker, a charity director, a civil servant, a video shop assistant (remember those?!) and a greengrocer. So maybe a combination of those, a Crown Court civil servant who likes fruit and veg and works for a charity in his spare time while watching videos! Or Harry Hills assistant, that would do me!

Q: What was your favourite subject in school and why?

Chemistry and Sociology, i liked the experiments and trying to understand why people do what they do.

Q: If you could change one thing you did as a young person, what would it be?

I would have studied harder for my A-levels and made the use of that time better. Which is probably one of the reasons that I love speaking to 6th formers most of all. Also, at one point I was going to have a career in radio, may be i should have done that for a year too – just to try it out.
