Steve comes from a working class background and lived on a normal street in a normal part of Birmingham.
So why then did he become a bully in his teens, get thanked by a police man for fracturing someone’s skull when he was at university, get stabbed twice and shot at once and then go on to build and sell a business for £300 million making 14 millionaires in the process.
Today Steve uses his inspirational story to show teens and teachers that bullying isn’t necessarily a black & white thing… sometimes you have to get to the story behind the behaviour. He also helps them to understand that being in control doesn’t mean you have to control others. If you want a powerful, inspirational speaker who connects with students, teachers and support staff then Steve is the right speaker for you.
Q: If you weren’t a speaker, what do you think you’d be?
In prison… no, seriously I am everything I want to be. As well as speaking I get to work with businesses who want to radically shake up the world, it’s very challenging but great fun as well. BUT If I couldn’t do this stuff any more I think I’d like to write horror stories.
Q: What was your favourite subject in school and why?
Computer Studies… we were some of the first kids in the country to have computers in school and it was exciting being allowed to do stuff that other people didn’t really understand. It also meant I could lock myself away and avoid situations (and people) which I realise now isn’t a healthy thing, but when you’re a kid you do whatever it takes to get through the day!
Q: If you could change one thing you did as a young person, what would it be?
I need to start by saying I don’t ‘do regret’ it can be a powerful way of keeping you rooted in an unhealthy past. Having said that, I would have been closer to my parents. I was the typical brattish, ungrateful teenager. I was just starting to come out of it and was just at the beginning of starting to repair my relationship with my parents when my dad died suddenly, I was 17 at the time. I missed out on what could have been 5 great years with him and I’ll never get them back. So whilst I don’t regret it, I do recognise it was a waste of 5 years when I could have been getting love and support.
